The Conviviality Data & Insight team provide a single coherent perspective on the UK’s drinkers and their behaviour. Understanding our data and our market is the cornerstone upon which future success will be built. Our insight is used to support our franchisees, our customers, our suppliers & our colleagues in planning for the future. Most importantly, it is used to shape how our business develops and innovates.

The Quantitative Analyst will be a pivotal role in the Data & Insight team, providing an analytical link between the customer partnership work conducted by our industry-leading Insights team and the BI & MI delivered by our Data & Analytics team. The quantitative analyst will provide further rigour to our research agenda and support our internal BI rollout with high levels of fiscal acuity. It is crucial that you also have experience visualising data; as it is critical you are capable of getting your message across once the analysis is complete.

Core Accountabilities

  • Contribute to our on-going self-assessment through establishing and running data quality checks, leading on data analysis, and designing visualisations where required. This aspect of the role will require the Quantitative Analyst to work as the main data expert embedded within and supporting a team of BI Analysts
  • Work with the Head of Data & Insights in leading the analysis of the industry-wide data set, implementing an annual thematic review, through examining trends, detecting patterns, and establishing main implications across the industry
  • Contribute to Conviviality’s growing research agenda. Propose possible research and analysis in particular through exploring our rich data set. Work with the Head of Data & Insight, and with the wider Insights team, in conducting robust, evidence-based research
  • Work with the Head of Data & Insight to improve and refine our market assessment approach every year, so that this is both robust and cutting edge, by looking both at our methods and our data sources
  • Lead a cross-functional Conviviality team in achieving ISO/IEC 27001 and 9000

Other accountabilities include but are not exlcusive to:

  • Stakeholder management and requirements gathering
  • Analysing, scoping prioritizing and developing solutions to meet project objectives
  • Building desk tools for P&L, hedging analysis, product volatility etc and stress-testing in Excel/Python/VBA
  • Working on day-to-day support processes for Group Data & Insight
  • Working on various projects impacting data quality and ISO compliance

Contacts/Key Relationships & Nature of Influence

Internal:

  • Insights – key day-to-day contact to audit and develop tools and back-up commercial arguments with financial acuity
  • Data & Analytics – key day-to-day contact with the team to stress test BI and MI solutions and help build financial models/KPIs
  • Finance (Retail, Direct, Trading & Group) – working with key finance stakeholders on BI/MI financial models/KPIs
  • Influencing key stakeholder behaviour across Conviviality through the dissemination of compelling business information

External:

  • Management of assigned third party data providers & their analysts

REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge/Experience/Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree (minimum 2:1) / Masters/ Ph.D awarded in a numerate course such as economics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related quantitative field
  • Outstanding ability for quantitative problem solving sustained by outstanding foundations in maths/stats
  • Strong commercial acumen, combined with an understanding of financial risk
  • Previous experience visualising data some prior experience of a tool such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlikview etc.
  • Solid enthusiasm for commercially driven problem solving
  • Fluency in mathematical finance and statistical analysis
  • Ability to communicate complex issues in a clear, understandable manner
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Ability to explain and defend the methodology used in the development of quantitative tools
  • Prior experience of working in a data team with the ability to assist with UAT testing, developing and executing test strategies
  • Have broad and demonstrable experience of working successfully with teams to deliver software and/or BI solutions
  • Can demonstrate outstanding analytical ability as well as strategic grasp of the “big picture”
  • Have experience prioritizing competing demands, resolving conflict and obtaining buy-in from stakeholders
  • Are comfortable working with and promoting a range of Agile delivery methodologies.
  • Experience in programming using C++, Python and VBA (desired)
  • Should be capable of quickly developing a clear understanding of drinks & FMCG market dynamics
  • Knowledge and experience of programming numerical algorithms would be an advantage
  • Use of MS Project (desired)
  • Experience using standard and advance analytics methods and tools, including: cluster analysis, regression analysis, machine learning with data warehouses (desired)
  • Experience of using MS Azure/Power BI (desired but not essential)

Professional Qualifications & Education

Essential: Bachelor’s Degree (minimum 2:1) / Masters/ Ph.D awarded in a numerate course such as economics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related quantitative field. Broad experience of using commercial analytical tecnhiques including [but not exclusive to]: regression analysis, pareto analysis, CAGRs & standard deviation.

Preferred: Experience in programming using C++, Python and VBA would be desirable. Python programming skills would be an advantage. Drinks/FMCG experience and WSET qualification[s] are desirable but not essential.
