Langham Wine Estate has an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our team as the Assistant Winemaker.

At Langham Wine Estate we pride ourselves in low intervention, grower-producer style sparkling wines, working only with the fruit from our single 85 acre vineyard in the heart of Dorset. With absolute focus on the quality of our wines, we craft oxidative, rich and characterful traditional method sparkling wines which respect the quality of the fruit that we grow.  Our style is distinctive to the UK industry which has lead to a great number of plaudits, which is something that we strive to continuously build on to craft the best wines that we possibly can. We are at the start of an exciting expansion program as we grow from a production of 50,000 bottles to over 150,000 bottles. This is a brilliant time for us as we look to the future and continue to push the quality and style of our winemaking. We are looking for somebody to join us as an integral part of this journey.

The role of the Assistant Winemaker is diverse, challenging and fulfilling. The Assistant Winemaker will work directly with the head winemaker in all aspects of production from grape receival to labelling and everything in between. The tasks that this role will include but won’t be limited to are;

·        Blending and tasting

·        Barrel management and maintenance

·        Basic lab analysis

·        Disgorging and dosage trials

·        All post production operations (labelling, loading riddling crates, store management)

·        Contract client operations, including meeting and tasting with the clients

·        Equipment cleaning and maintenance

·        Assisting in vineyard work where required (pruning, bud rubbing, wire lifting etc)

·        Being a responsible line manager to any cellar hands that join our team as we grow

·        Leading guided tours to trade and public when occasionally required

 

The right candidate will have the following;

·        Experience as an assistant winemaker or senior cellar hand in sparkling wine production

·        The ability to work and communicate under pressure within a team

·        A passion for wine production

·        Good literacy and numeracy skills

·        The ability to lift up to 25kg

·        Competent ability on a forklift truck

·        The right to work in the UK

 

Hours – Monday to Friday 45 hours per week. Some weekend work will be required during busy periods such as bottling and harvest.

 

Salary – Competitive depending on experience.
