Quality Control Buying Manager (Wine Jobs: Management & Administration)

Job purpose:

 Overall responsibility and accountability for the safety, legality and compliance with technical requirements for all The Society’s wines and products

 To oversee and develop all operational processes within the Buying Department (quality control/wine information/support systems)

 To assist the Head of Buying in the management and operation of the Buying Department, including the direct management of individuals

Main duties:

 Ensuring The Wine Society is aware of and adhering to all relevant legislation relating to technical issues in wine (allergens, permitted additives etc) and wine packaging (including labelling eg organic) and ensuring that all The Society’s products are compliant by providing excellent due diligence procedures

 Collaborate with the Head of Buying to develop and implement The Society’s quality control strategy, including Environmental and Ethical initiatives (including Modern Slavery Act) within the supplier base

 Manage and resolve incidents, including product recalls

 Collate and analyse data relating to member quality complaints and supplier quality incidents, and report key trends to stakeholders

 Being proactive to ensure the Buying department has the right systems and processes in place to accurately and efficiently maintain wine information for members

 Organising and booking supplier audits for any sites requiring them (maintaining a risk assessment database) and ensuring non-conformances are rectified

 Ensuring specifications, including all packaging and analytical information, are in place for own brand products

 Ensuring that The Wine Society Code of Practice and Technical Standard are reviewed and if necessary revised annually in line with legislation

 Communicating technical requirements to the supplier base and providing technical advice to colleagues

 Coordinating weekly QC tastings (new shipments and member returns), preshipment samples coming into head office (where relevant), checking packaging and quality and recording the results

 Provide advice on legal technical requirements to suppliers, Buyers and colleagues

Main management duties:

 Ensure that direct reports receive clear direction, support and development in order for them to carry out their tasks efficiently

 Ensure that direct reports have the skills, processes and training necessary for them to perform at the highest level

 Set objectives and conduct regular performance appraisals of direct reports.

 In conjunction with Head of Buying, ensure the implementation of the Society’s Wine Strategy and the Buying related elements of the Annual Operating Plan

 Stand in for Head of Buying at Executive Team Meetings when requested
