      Black Chalk & The Tasting Room

Black Chalk is a producer of high-quality English wines, both sparkling and still. Our home in the picturesque Test Valley incorporates 30 acres of vineyards, a winery and more recently, a Tasting Room and Courtyard. We have established ourselves as an excellent venue for tours, tastings and other events.

Our Tours and Tastings account for a large proportion of revenue through the Tasting Room. 2023 saw in excess of 2000 guests pass through on tours - a number we hope to increase on next year. We are looking for friendly, knowledgable and passionate individuals who can deliver a relaxed and informative tour.

 Key Responsibilities 

  • Being an ambassador for Black Chalk. Knowledge of the Black Chalk story and its ethos is paramount.  
  • Understanding of how the vineyard and winery operates, in relation to both Traditional Method sparkling wine and still wine. 
  • Understanding our full product range and what makes us different from other winemakers.
  • Confidence in speaking to large groups (up to 25 per tour).
  • Being able to deliver a relaxed tour that is tailored to the group on the day. Balancing the amount of technical information is vital.
  • Maximising sales opportunities by making recommendations to our guests, i.e. the Wine Club. 
  • Desirable for candidates to able to support the Front of House team in delivering the food and beverage side of the Tasting Room. This will involve a ‘hands-on’ approach to the bar and shop where necessary, for example using the ePOS till system. 

Academic Qualifications & Experience

  • WSET qualifications - Level 1 or higher
  • Ideally experience of hosting wine tours - or experience of general public speaking
  • Experience of a fast-paced hospitality environment  

Reporting to: General Manager
Salary: £12 per hour
Hours: Part-time/casual - availability at weekends is mandatory
