Background: McNeill Vineyard Management Ltd provides a contract management service to multiple clients covering approximately 400 acres of vineyards in the Crouch Valley region of Essex.
The installation of a large contract winemaking facility in 2024 is a major development for the region, and one with which MVM Ltd is heavily involved.
MVM Ltd is also a partner in South & East Grape Harvesting Ltd, which operates a mechanical harvesting contract service.
In order to facilitate the on-going development of our business, as the Crouch Valley region continues to grow, we are seeking a Vineyard Operations Manager to work alongside the Manual Labour and the Machinery Operations management team.
The Vineyard Operations Manager will be involved in the creation of the vineyard management plans for each of our clients, and be responsible for their implementation.
The role will also involve some planning and execution of new vineyard establishment projects for our sister company, Vines Direct Ltd.
A vehicle, office and computer are provided for work use.
The role is not client facing, but does require an ability / willingness to co-operate with other members of the MVM management team.
All necessary resources will be provided to help ensure the role is carried out effectively.

Reporting to: Managing Director, Co-Director / Company Secretary
Status: Full time. Permanent
Probationary Period: 3 months.
Hours:
7:30am – 4:30pm (longer hours and weekend work will be required at certain times, to ensure time specific tasks are completed)
Holiday Entitlement: 28 days per year (including statutory holidays and bank holidays). Holiday to be taken at times agreed with the employer
Start Date: January / February 2024
Roles, Responsibilities include the following:
- Contribute to creation of vineyard management plans for clients of the business. This is done in conjunction with other staff members, including Managing Director, Labour Manager and Machinery Operations Manager.
- Implementation, and tracking to completion, of all vineyard management plans so as to ensure that all scheduled works are completed in a timely and correct manner for our clients.
- Maintenance of spray records and cropping records for all vineyards. Other general record keeping will be required.
- Use of GPS field mapping equipment to measure out new vineyard sites. Use of the data generated to calculate materials required for new projects.
- Assist in implementing soil preparation plans for new vineyard projects.
- Occasional operation of vineyard tractors and machinery when necessary
- Management of all logistics involved in vineyard operations on all sites. All vineyards under management are within a 15 mile radius. Includes towing a trailer on occasions.
- Management of a storage facility for vineyard trellising sundries used by the business and a small collection of vineyard machinery used at a single vineyard site.
Requirements:
- Previous vineyard management experience
- Full Drivers licence (and trailer license if necessary)
- Own accommodation
- Own transport to work. (Vehicle provided for work use)
Competent with Microsoft xl and other software programmes.
