As we now look to expand rapidly in many directions at once (retail, wholesale, online and education), we are looking for a new Assistant Store Manager to join us. This is a critical new hire, as you will be only the third full-time member of the team, and as such, will have huge potential to impact upon the business.
The skills/characteristics you must demonstrate are:
- Hard-working and resourceful: you do not fear getting your hands dirty and doing the less glamorous jobs involved in retail (stock control, packing, receiving orders)
- Ridiculously personable: your default expression should be a genuine smile, and you should be interested in and curious about people.
- Proactive and independent: you are not daunted by working on your own and running the store in the absence of the managers. You need to be autonomous enough to make the right decisions.
- Can-do attitude: your immediate reaction to any request is "yes", and then you work out how.
- Passionate about wine: you needn't know everything. In fact, it's better that you know what you don't know. But you need to LOVE wine and be prepared to bore everyone to tears on the subject.
- At least WSET Level 2 or extensive, provable wine knowledge.
- Driver's license and car
And here are a few "nice to haves":
- Sales or service experience: it would be great if you've worked in some kind of sales or service environment previously.
- Love of learning: wine is complex, and we have lots of different producers.
- IT/Social Media savvy: we run several social media accounts and it would be amazing if you can help run them.

- A huge amount of autonomy, with the latitude to make your own decisions and choices, and get involved with all elements of the company (buying, selling, promoting, marketing etc.)
