An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Brewing Team at St Austell Brewery as our new Laboratory Assistant.

Reporting to the Quality Control Team Leader. The main purpose of the role will be to conduct laboratory sampling and analysis (chemical and microbiological) of our products throughout the production processes to ensure the consistent supply of high quality beers to the various production departments and ultimately our customers.
As part of a laboratory team of 3 assistants and a Team Leader, the role will also capture diverse activities ranging from yeast propagation and yeast preparation for bottling to analyses for process optimisation, maintaining the beer cellar, sample room and bottle library, and to prepare weekly tasting sessions what will require the manual handling of full casks. Escalating anomalies and initiating investigations into process deviations is a critical aspect of the job
We are looking for an intelligent and resourceful person with the ability to work in a close knit team as well as by their own initiative
The successful candidate will have a keen attention to detail and a scientific leaning, will be able to priorities work and will possess the ability to adhere meticulously to both procedure and process, from bench top analysis to electronic and paper based record keeping.
In addition the ability to communicate concisely, logically and proactively with brewery managers and production operatives is essential. The successful candidate will be a key member of the laboratory team, and will be relied upon to ensure the quality of analyses, maintenance of instrumentation and standards of housekeeping and hygiene within the brand new brewery laboratory.
Working hours will be 40 per week on a 3 shift rota system which will include nights and may include some weekend overtime. Your salary will be reviewed in line with the training program.
You must have a minimum of 5 GCSE’s, including science based subjects and experience working in a laboratory and production environment will be highly beneficial
